Top 5 Rewind | Books I Don’t Talk About Enough

Hello everyone. The third week of January. Can you believe it? Neither can I. Today’s topic for Top 5 Tuesday is Books I don’t talk about enough. This is a weekly meme hosted by the very lovely Shanah – Bionic Book Worm. Head over to the hyperlink to read her choices.

Coming back to this week’s topic which is Top 5 Rewind – the books that I love but somehow I don’t talk about them that often. Well, here goes my list.

  • The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

This is the book I have recently finished so I haven’t been able to talk it much. This was my first book of the year. I read the book and watched the TV series simultaneously. I have a feeling that I am in a much better state to talk about different aspects of the book and will soon write about it too.

  • Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys

This book is a prequel to Jane Eyre from the point of view of Bertha Mason. I think I talk about Jane Eyre a lot because it is one of the reasons I am a bookworm today. However, even after being in awe of the book I did find some problematic things regarding the portrayal of Bertha. She was disregarded as a lunatic and framed devilish without understanding her situations. WSS looks into her perception throwing light on the struggles of being marginalized.

  • Train to Pakistan by Khushwant Singh

This is a historical fiction based on the India-Pakistan partition of 1947. This book depicts the pre and post partition scenario acquainting us with the barbarity and horrors faced by the people. I would say, this was a highly emotional book for me reading about the innocent lives which fell victim to power politics. I think this is a good reason as to why I don’t talk much about this book.

  • Animal Farm by George Orwell

Trust me, I am surprised to see Animal Farm on this list. Yes, this book is about animals and a farm but no humans are running it. Intrigued? I was too. It is a dystopia where animals have the ability to talk and think for themselves depicting a brilliant satire on the society.

  • The Sense of An Ending by Julian Barnes

I really don’t know WHY I don’t talk about this book. Never have I loved a book such that I have read every page twice before flipping. Yes, it was that an amazing read.

That’s all for this week. I hope I start talking about these books. Thank you once again Shanah for this lovely reminder.

If there is a book that you don’t talk about enough, let us talk about it in the comments.

Happy Reading

  1. First I adore your bookstagrams! Truly! Second I have never read any of these books but I nearly bought The Sense of an Ending last year. I have published my list (late as usual) and I cheated some looking at Joe’s list LOL

    • A Tale of Cities is very high on my tbr. I wonder why I haven’t read it yet given that I am a huge Dickens fan. I am going to pick it up next month.
Thank you for mentioning the other two books adding them to the tbr as well.☺️
